Hi all, hope you're doing well. After a full week of immersion in the 150th Open for Team Clippd, we'd love to hear your thoughts on what you saw. I'd be keen to know whether you agree that coaching and data were given a bigger place in the broadcast, and how much this contributed to the viewers' understanding of the players' ability.

One example that caught my eye, Live At the Range, a new element on the Open website and YouTube that used TopTracer data and dialled into the technique and coaching side of things. A couple of links here:

@Dan @Josh I LOVE at the range pieces and watch them intently. Not long ago you'd rarely see pre-round anyone using doppler..now you'd be hard pressed to find a stall without one. "feels and reals" are the goals. On a side note many of my students are buying Flightscope Mevo+ and they take it everywhere. They'll use it in practice and pre-round and post round as well. It's an advantage for sure..in view and we are able to find balance with their games for sure as we measure.

Hi @brianjacobsgolf. We seem to be at an inflection point, not only in terms of launch monitors hitting a price where more golfers can consider owning one, but also in terms of a wider acceptance that harnessing the various data outputs - and making them easy to understand and actionable - is one of the surest routes to better play.

I'd be really interested to hear if students who watch the broadcast bring up certain points that are mentioned by the analysts when they next see you for a lesson? @alex.clapp @motleygolf @liamsullivan91 Do you see any of this?

I think a lot of the time Students get lost in the numbers, giving the information via broadcasts are fine, but its the understanding, interpretation that's key. I saw some commentators mentioning no names on broadcast last week or the week before that called a GC Quad a "flightscope"

All players want on range for me is ball speeds, carry distances for the day. Lots of the work prep on other numbers are done before they're about to go play. There's so much that can be learned from the "numbers" but IMO its about making the data easy to interpret, and knowing that you all have unique numbers, there is no one set that fits players.

@alex.clapp Completely agree and hopefully we're on track to making that data as easily interpretable as possible. I've over heard people before that they saw a tour player making a move to try and fix something and now that student wants to try the same! I wonder how many people are now doing Spieth's pre shot for example!

@alex.clapp the key is definitely making the various data outputs into something players and coaches can grasp, understand and action instinctively. And I/we totally agree about there being no one set that fits all. We're all unique in the way we play the game, hit the ball, swing the club and so on
