On the Asian Tour, Steve Lewton’s rich vein of form continues. In back-to-back events in Thailand, Steve recorded a T6 finish at the Royal’s Cup 2022 at Grand Prix Golf Club in Kanchanaburi and followed it with a T5 in the first of the new International Series events at the Black Mountain Golf Club. After his superb T4 finish in the Saudi International, Steve shot rounds of 70, 68, 66, 69 to end at 15 under par at the Royal’s Cup and then 68, 68, 66, 67 to be 19 under par a week later. He currently stands 3rd on the Asian Tour Order of Merit and has moved up 383 places on the OWGR to No. 253 since the turn of the year. Well played Steve!
The DP World Tour resumed in Nairobi with Ben Evans making it through to the weekend in the Magic of Kenya Open at the Muthaiga Country Club. The Englishman made the cut on the number thanks to a gutsy eagle three on the 18th in round two.
In the latest Challenge Tour event in South Africa, Tom Sloman of England finished the week 7 under par in the Manguang Open in Bloemfontein.
A tip of the Clippd visor to John Gough, who emulated previous major champions Jose Maria Olazabal, Sergio Garcia, Darren Clarke and Danny Willett by winning the Spanish Amateur Championship. The 23-year-old Englishman added the King's Cup trophy to his English Amateur Championship crown, which he won last summer.
Olly Huggins, Sam Bairstow, Callan Barrow and Harvey Byers, who all use Clippd, made it through to the matchplay stages, with Olly finishing T8 and Sam T11 in the 36-hole qualifying event. In the first qualifying round, Olly joined Clippd’s prestigious 200 Club after recording a perfect Shot Quality score with his hole-in-one on the par-3 7th hole. Congratulations Olly!
It was a strong week for the UALR Trojans. Magnus Lomholt finished T2 in the individual standings at the Desert Mountain Collegiate at the Desert Mountain Club in Nevada. Rounds of 72,73,70 put him at 1 under par and just one shot shy of top spot. Earlier in the week, Magnus was part of the six-man University of Arkansas at Little Rock team that recorded another 2nd place at the Lake Las Vegas Intercollegiate. The Trojans finished a combined 17 under par at Reflection Bay GC, lowering the team’s scoring average to 283.60, the lowest in the program’s history. This banner week extends the team's run of top-five finishes in the 2021/22 season. Go Trojans!
Congrats to Alessia Mengoni of the University of Louisiana Monroe Women's Golf Team for her career best 3rd place finish at the Dr. Donnis Thompson Invitational in Hawaii. Rounds of 70,75,74 put Alessia just two shots behind the individual medalist, as the Warhawks finished 4th overall.
